19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.
The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different events.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.
His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.
Moutet saved four initial chances in a close third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
